The Fouta is a 100% linen towel big enough to wrap up in and beautiful enough to use as a throw or even a tablecloth in a pinch. While on vacation in Hawaii, I use mine as a sarong.
Just a word about woven towels - vs - terrycloth. Linen has a higher cellulose content than any other natural fiber (which is what sponges are made of...) thus inherently more absorbent, so it's not necessary to make linen into terrycloth for it to be absorbent. I'm not gonna lie, it's different than the big puffy terrycloth towels that are nice in the winter, but in the summer, or after a swim, a linen towel does the job faster, and it dries faster too, which keeps it from getting that weird towel smell (you know what I'm talking about....)
My best friend got one of the first fouta sized towels I got in at the shop - and she loves it so much it hasn't made it into the bathroom. She uses it as a throw on her sofa and as a wrap on chilly evenings.
